Why you need an all-consuming desire

In one of my favorite books, Think and Grow Rich, there’s a story of a man who had an all-consuming obsession - a burning desire.

His desire was to be the associate of Thomas Edison - to work with him and to help him carry out his mission.

Early on in this man’s life, when he began to develop this all-consuming obsession, if you were to look at him, you would have viewed him as just any ordinary person.

As Napoleon Hill wrote, "He resembled a tramp, but his thoughts were those of a king."

Here’s the thing… wanting and wishing will never lead to achievement.

You can want and wish all you want, but unless you have a keenpulsating desire which transcends everything else, your want or your wish will never come about.

This isn’t pie-in-the-sky thinking; this is simply how the universe works.

I think about my life, and I can tell you for sure that if wanting and wishing could get you anywhere, I would have been a millionaire by the time I was 20 years old.

Instead, I worked as a roofer. I spent day after day thinking about how unfair it was that life had dealt me this hand, and I believed I just had to play the cards I was dealt.

wanted something different. I hoped for something different. I wished that my life was different.

...But it wasn’t until I learned the process that Napoleon Hill teaches in Think and Grow Rich - a process that I learned from my first mentor, Patrick Hayes - that I began to direct and focus my energy on my desire so that it was stronger than ever before.

...It wasn’t until I had done this, and trained my mind to stay laser-focused on what it was that I desired, that it became a burning obsession for my life. That’s when things really began to shift for me.

You may wish your life was different - you may hope the conditions and circumstances in your life change for the better - but until you develop within you a burning desire, an all-consuming obsession in your life, a "north star" that you can stay focused on, and until you know each step is taking you closer to that destination… until you have that solidified in your mind, you will just be on a wandering path that keeps you busy, but leads you nowhere in particular.

So, how do you develop an all-consuming obsession? Well, it starts with getting clear on what you really want.

Now, when I ask them what they want, most people start listing the things they don’t want…

"I don’t want to be overweight - I don’t want to be in debt - I don’t want to have a bad marriage, etc…"

You‘ve got to stop that thinking. You’ve got to stop that approach, and instead, flip it around.

Instead, ask yourself, "What is it that I actually want?"

You want to be healthy - you want to be financially free, financially stable - you want to feel confident and certain in who you are and in the direction you’re going…

Those are probably all things that you desire, aren’t they?

So, get really clear on that and take some time to build the picture in your mind of what that really looks like.

...What does it feel like? What does it smell like? What are the experiences you would have if this was your life? What are the conversations you would have if this was your life? How would you feel within your emotions and mental state? What would your experience be in your spiritual life and the connection to your source?

If you don’t have a crystal-clear picture of what that looks like and feels like, how you would live that out? I’m just telling you right now, if you’re not certain of exactly what it is that you desire, you’re going to stay stuck.

You’re going to stay stuck in your current circumstances and conditions; you’re going to stay stuck with the things that you don’t want in your life; you’re just going to stay stuck.

And in case you haven’t heard yet… stuck stinks.

So, start today - build that image of what it is that you want in your life. Take the first step.

Even if it’s just a tiny step of 5 minutes today for you to start the process of moving forward in the direction of your dreams… it’s worth it.

What is praxis?

I’ve been contemplating the concept of praxis recently.

Praxis is the integration of thought and behavior. It’s the process through which an idea or a theory is enacted, embodied, or realized.

It really comes down to a congruency between our thoughts and behaviors – an integration between our ideas and our actions. When our thoughts and behaviors are congruent, we are much more likely to experience a sustained change in our lives.

What happens is we begin to trust ourselves. We develop a heightened level of discernment of our internal intuitive signal - that intuitive part of us that is always accurate and in harmony with what is emerging in our lives.

You’ve probably experienced this when you were going full force on an idea, putting it into action. You felt a certain sense of internal confidence and certainty that told you what you were doing was moving you in the right direction, that it was the right next thing for you to do.

This is because you were being guided from a higher source within you, right?

Your thoughts and ideas were integrated and congruent with your behavior and action.

…And when that takes place, you enter into this realm of being able to move forward in your life at the speed of trust; trusting yourself and that voice within you, guiding you forward.

You know, quite frankly, I spent a lot of time developing this within myself, this ability to make a decision quickly based on my gut feeling, this inner sense that it’s the best decision for me to make in that moment – even when I don’t have all the logic and reason to back it up.

And it’s why I was able to pivot my business so quickly when COVID - 19 hit. Without apparent interruptions, I was actually able to come out ahead of where I was, before the conditions and circumstances around me had changed.

My business has grown substantially over the last year. And I don’t say that to impress you, but rather to impress upon you that as you too develop this ability to take confident steps forward, that are in harmony with the vision and purpose for your life, when you trust that guiding voice within you, you too can create extraordinary results that everyone around you is saying would be impossible to create.

So, how do you integrate your thought and behavior? How do you reach this point of praxis as you live out your life?

I believe the first step is to get acquainted with, and familiar with, that inner voice within you; that voice of intuition, that voice of God, that inner guidance system (whatever title you want to give it). It’s the understanding of this higher source and this higher awareness that is within you.

Because when you start to hear that voice, trust that voice, and take action on what that voice is telling you, that’s when huge shifts begins to occur in your life.

So, sit down with a pen and paper and take a few deep breaths in… and out. Then, just begin to write. Write down all the thoughts that come to you and allow it to flow.

Don’t judge, don’t second guess, don’t criticize yourself for thinking a particular thing or for writing a particular thought; just allow it to flow.

And as it flows, you will open up that space within you, within your conscious awareness, to allow yourself to recognize that intuitive voice within you.

Maybe it sounds crazy or just wishy-washy, but I’m telling you – this works.

And I’m telling you, when you can bring this together and when you can integrate your thought and behavior, and align them with your purpose in life, you’ll trust yourself in new ways and you’ll become willing to take courageous steps forward to bring positive change to your life.

Most people make decisions in the WRONG way

Most people make decisions in the WRONG way

The quality of your life really comes down to the quality of the decisions you make.

Every decision you make moves you in a particular direction. It either moves you toward the place you want to go, or away from it; towards your goals, or away from them.

The truth about decision making is that most of us have been trained to make decisions based on our logic.

And when we’re only using our logic to make decisions, we are only using our IQ.

Our IQ and the logic that stems from it is primarily based on our stored past knowledge. And that stored knowledge has come to us and been developed in our minds from our past experiences.

When you limit your decision-making based only on past experiences, past results, past failures, and even past achievements, you put yourself into a box that cuts out the full range of possibilities for your life.

…In other words, you limit yourself.

But here’s the truth: your past experiences do not equal what’s fully possible for your life.

So, what if you started using a different approach when it comes to making decision-making? Instead of starting with your IQ, which looks at the “here and now,” what if you started with your SQ - your spiritual intelligence?

Your spirit is evenly present in all places at all times. And it has access to the full picture: the truth of your infinite potential, the truth of the resources available to you, and the truth of what you’re capable of creating in your life.

If you began making decisions from this starting point of accessing your spiritual intelligence, you’re then able to tap into your imagination and your intuition, which sees bigger, further, and grander than your logic ever could.

What difference do you think it’ll make in your life if your decision making was based on this, rather than being based on your past conditions and circumstances?

How would that change what you do today, tomorrow, and quite frankly, for the rest of your life?
